Whitehead holds three in-state offers

Jermaine Whitehead is one of the top cornerback prospects in the state of Mississippi for 2011.

The six-foot, 183-pounder from Amanda Elzy in Greenwood has already picked up scholarships from the big three in the Magnolia State and is looking to expand his offer list beyond that state borders.

"Recruiting is going great," Whitehead said. "It exploded at the beginning of this year as a matter of fact. Ole Miss offered me when I went to their junior day after only knowing me a week really. Mississippi State, I've been talking to them for quite a while and they gave me a formal offer at their junior day and just (Sunday) I went to Southern Miss and they offered me. I've been getting letters from USC, Tennessee and I want to get in touch with a lot more schools to keep going higher and as far as possible."

Whitehead has been on the junior day circuit over the past few weeks hitting up Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Southern Miss. But after touring the three campuses, he is no closer to a decision at this time.

"I really don't have any favorites," Whitehead said. "I really want to be able to sit down and go through everything with my family and my coach. The decision is going to come down to me but I want to go where I best fit. Where ever I make my favorite, that's where I am going to go. When I name somebody as a leader it will be for a reason."

Whitehead admits he will be influenced by his family to attend their alma mater Mississippi State. He has spent a good bit of time in Starkville and really likes what the Bulldogs have to offer him.
