DT, Cox commits to Army
GBK.com reported early this week that defensive tackle Joel Cox was a heavy lean towards Army. Well, Mr. Cox has joined running back Scott Jones as the second prospect from the January 8th official visit weekend to say yes to the Black Knights' staff.
It was just two days ago that the prospect out of Greenwood (In.) Center Grove High School made it official when he coach Joe Ross called to follow-up with 6-foot-2, 275 pound defender. "He called me Tuesday night and asked how I was feeling after a couple of days of taking everything in," shares Cox. "That's when I told him I was in
he was excited and I'm very excited - it's a great fit for me. It was obvious to me that I wanted to go there, but I needed the time to calm down and look at all angles."
For Cox, he has closed the door on all other interested parties and is now ready to wear the Black & Gold of Army. "I'm not taking my official visit to Ball State and I notified them," declares Cox, who indicated that the Ball State staff was going to offer him on my official visit there.
Indiana Mr. Football (defensive line)
For those that have seen Cox perform, they describe his style of play as being a hard worker, very strong, the ability to leverage his strength, keeping his gap and always pursuing after the ball.
Cox, who had a very productive senior season where he finished the year with 61 tackles, 18 assisted, 19 tackles for loss. Add to that 4 sacks, 3 forced fumbles; 2 fumbles recovered and you can see why he was an All-State performer, but also selected by the Indiana Football Coaches Association as Indiana Mr. Football for the defensive line position, which goes to the top defensive lineman in the entire state.
Cox has taken pride in his high school accomplishments, but is now ready to turn the corner and display his talents on the bigger stage. "It's great to be a Black Knight and we are heading in the right direction
I can't wait to get there," shares Cox, who enters as a direct admit.
GoBlackKnights.com congratulates Joel Cox on becoming the newest member of Army's recruiting class of 2010.
