I think we all wondered what a healthy Gil Roberts would do on the track and now we see the absolute monster that Tech has in its arsenal. Gil Roberts runs the fastest time in the WORLD indoors this year in the 400 and runs it on the same track that will host conference and nationals! He beats the school record held by Albert Booker, who was a pretty good dadgum quartermiler himself AND Gil is only a sophomore with fewer than 10 college races under his belt. The sky is the limit!!!!

Other excellent performances on Saturday:

-Terra Evans getting a provisional time of 23.87 in the 200. This freshman sprinter is a huge addition to the team.

-Anthony Flemons jumped well - PR in the LJ (25-6) and a very good jump (52-2)in the TJ shows that Anthony is ready for conference.

-Cory Higgins had a PR in the 3K of 8:20.40 to go with his PR of 4:11.66 in the mile on Friday. 2 PR's in one weekend - Cory is also ready for the conference meet.

-Omo Osaghae had a fine provisional mark in the 60H of 7.77 - a PR and a mark that should certainly get him into the national meet.

-Darrell Roddick will help this team in as many as three events at conference. On Saturday, he improved on his provionsional mark in the TJ wiht a 51-1.5. Would be cool to see him place in the HJ, LJ and TJ at conference.

-Kelly Wilson had an indoor PR in the vault with a 15-9.25. Kelly never got going indoors last year, yet still vaulted over 16 outdoors. Hopefully, this means he is ready to vault 16-6 to 17 outdoors this year.

-When I first saw the 3:10.00 for the men's 4X400, I thought that was a solid time, BUT to read that they dropped the baton and ran a 3:10 is amazing! This group could run a 3:06 at conference!

-Asia Diaz continues to have an terrific senior year, running a PR 2:09.92 in the 800 on Friday and coming back with a PR 9:47.02 in the 3K. She has PR's in three different events this season and is a legit contender at conference in the 800, 1000, mile and 3K!

-Michelle Guzman continues to show steady improvement with a PR of 17:23.67 in the 5K. Watch out for Michelle at conference in the 5K!

-Both sophomore halfmilers, Kearci Jobe (2:14.92) and Shannon Jackson (2:15.47) are trying to force their way into the conference picture in that event, with good times and steady improvement.

-Kelsey Lloyd just missed her PR with a 5-9.75. This is the most consistent I have seen Kelsey jump since coming to Tech. Conference points are very likely from her AND she is running on a much-improved 4X400.

-Speaking of the 4X400, their 3:41.74 is already 4 seconds better than they ran at conference last year. I will be totally shocked if we don't see them drop under the NCAA provisional time of 3:40 at conference.

All in all, a good prep weekend for a team that now has less than 2 weeks until conference. They will rest up/train through this coming weekend, as Tech hosts its HS invitational meet. I think both teams look ready to make serious challenges at the indoor conference meet and increasingly, to make noise at the national meet as well. By nationals, this group will be very familiar with that new TAMU track and will treat it like a home track.
