Jamison is a Blue Devil
Monroe, N.C., wide receiver Jamison Crowder has been hearing from Duke for a long time and on Monday he decided that he wants to join the Blue Devils when he's done with high school. Devils Illustrated caught up with the talented prospect and we have the story.
At 5-foot-9 and 160-pounds Crowder is considered one of the top receivers in North Carolina's Class of 2011. He told Devils Illustrated on Monday shortly after his commitment that he had received offers from East Carolina, Wake Forest, NC State and Illinois.
In the end his decision came down to Duke and East Carolina, because those were the two schools that had been showing him the most attention.
"Yes sir, I'm committed to Duke," Crowder confirmed shortly after noon. "I did that this morning. I called the coaches and talked to coach (Matt) Lubick first. He was very happy. He put me on the phone with the head coach, coach (David) Cutcliffe. We talked for about ten minutes.
"He just told me the decision I made today was very good. They're really going to look out for me. They expect me to come in and work hard. They're going to try to get me the ball and put me in a position to make plays.
"As far as the education goes, he told me I picked one of the top schools in the world. We had a pretty good conversation."
The coaching staff was clearly a big factor in Crowder's decision, as were things such as academics, playing time and the environment at the school. Ultimately, though, it was Crowder's comfort level with the school and the people there that sealed the deal.
"As far as the coaches go, when I talked to them I just felt real comfortable. I had been to the campus and I felt comfortable there. I guess you could say it just came down to that comfortable feeling. I know what kind of school Duke is. As long as I go there and work hard I'm going to be successful."
Crowder is Duke's 17th commitment from the Class of 2011, and the Blue Devils' second wide receiver in the class.
