Gonzales talks TCU commitment
Nearly two weeks ago, Del City, Oklahoma quarterback Chazten Gonzales received his first scholarship offer from the TCU Horned Frogs. Gonzales admitted in an interview with Purplemenace.com back then that he was on the verge of committing when he received the offer. After thinking it over some more over the next several days, Gonzales felt the time was right.
"I just felt like I should of made it," he said. "It's a good fit and I was surrounded by good coaches when I took that visit. I came down for that camp but they want me to come down again for another visit because Coach Patterson wasn't there."
The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder was recruited to TCU by coach Dan Sharp, who Gonzales called to give the good news.
"I called them and we were getting done talking and he was asking how I was doing and I felt like I should commit and pull the trigger and just all of it out of the way," Gonzales said. "He was surprised and happy too, he told me I should've committed when I was offered you.
"He told me he wants me to call Coach Patterson and if I couldn't get in touch with him to come down and visit with him on Sunday."
Gonzales, who came down to TCU earlier in the week, says he was very impressed with the facilities and the overall environment the campus has to offer.
"That's the first time I've seen it in person," he said. "The stuff I see on the internet looks exactly the same with the facilities and all that. It's a nice surrounding."
Gonzales, who threw for over 2,400 yards and added another 400 on the ground is regarded as one of the top quarterbacks in Oklahoma. Blessed with great athleticism, one may wonder what the Frogs have in store for him. According to the talented gunslinger, it's one position for now.
"Strictly as quarterback," Gonzales said of where TCU recruited him. "And if that doesn't work out they're probably end up moving me to receiver but right now it's strictly at quarterback."
Gonzales continues to receive interest from several schools and may be close to adding another offer.
"Tulsa is talking about offering," he said. "They said they were going to call me next week and let me know what the deal is on it."
