Breeland gives the latest
One of the top defensive back prospects in the Palmetto State is Allendale-Fairfax safety Bashaud Breeland. The 6-foot-1, 190 pound athlete has claimed Clemson as his leader for a while now.
According to Breeland, his pecking order has changed.
"My top five is (South) Carolina, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Michigan, and Tennessee in no order," he said.
The latest school to step in with interest to the talented safety, who recently ran a 4.41 forty-yard-dash at a combine, is a program from the ACC.
"Georgia Tech is the most recent school to show interest," he said. "I'm up to about 11 offers now."
The Palmetto prospect gave high marks to a recent trip to Clemson.
"I've visited Clemson," he said. "It was pretty cool up there."
Visits to more schools that he is interested in are on deck for the safety prospect, who has tallied eleven interceptions in his career.
"I'll probably visit South Carolina this summer," he said. "But I'm going to visit them along with Clemson, Alabama, Michigan, Georgia Tech, and Virginia Tech I think."
Breeland talked about his relationship with Gamecock recruiter Shane Beamer.
"He's a good role model for me to play under," he said. "I call him every now and then. He was the first to contact me about playing college ball and to offer me."
The Gamecocks are looking for impact players in the Class of 2010 and Breeland believes he can do just that.
"I think I could go in there and change their program," he said. "I like the way they play and I could get some playing time there."
When embarking on his visits this summer, Breeland will have his eye on several key factors.
"Academics is important to me," he told GamecockCentral.com. "I want to like the campus and feel comfortable there. I want to see how I can get involved with the depth chart."
Chris' Take: Breeland is a safety prospect with a lot of upside because of his athleticism. Clemson had been the leader for a while but the Gamecocks seem to have made up some ground. Coach Shane Beamer always does an excellent job building relationships and Breeland is no different, which is why South Carolina will have an excellent shot in the end."
