2010 WR ready for camps
Wide receiver Sherrard Harrington is one of the region's top prospects at his position in the Class of 2010 and he's poised for a big junior year in Washington (D.C.) H.D. Woodson's spread offense.
The 6-foot-1, 170-pound prospect caught 19 passes for 300 yards and three touchdowns last season and those numbers should rise this year. With quarterback Ricardo Young at the helm it should be a tough offense to stop.
Harrington is gearing up for summer camps. If he performs well at those his stock should rise significantly.
"I've been trying to get to combines and go to a lot of camps," Harrington explained. "I'm going to Penn State, Temple, Maryland, Pittsburgh and probably some more. My trainer Joe Haden has been (planning) all the camps I'm going to.
"He's been working on my combine training with me ... my 40, shuttle and vertical. He's improved them a lot. My vertical is now 36 inches, my shuttle is 3.97 and my 40 is a 4.46."
Harrington is taking a hard look at four schools, though it's still very early in the recruiting process. He said his favorites at this point are Florida, Penn State, Pittsburgh and Rutgers.
"We're running a spread formation so they like to use my speed," Harrington said, referring to his upcoming junior season. "I can play outside and in the flat. I'm about 6-1 and 170 pounds and I have a lot of speed and quickness, plus I'll be playing with one of the top quarterbacks in the 2010 class. I might be playing a little defense at safety or corner too.
"I'm good at yards after the catch. After I catch the ball I'm going to take it to the house."
