Tar Heels offer Charlotte LB Stewart
b> Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour hosted one of the best North Carolina linebacker prospects in the 2014 class last weekend at Mallard Creek High School in Charlotte.
Matthews (NC) Butler standout Isaac Stewart has offers from Charlotte, UNC, North Carolina State, Louisville and Appalachian State.
Other schools that have been recruiting Stewart include Clemson and West Virginia as well as South Carolina and Texas. <
"Clemson, they've really taken a liking to me," said Stewart.
Like most college prospects, a good deal of thought has gone through Stewarts mind about where he would like to ultimately go for his college career.
"I would like to end up somewhere hot, because I just like the heat," said Stewart with a smile on his face. "But I'm actually looking for a place that when I leave, it depends on how good I'm going to be when I leave college from when I enter. A place with good athletic programs and good educational programs. I just want to be a better person going out than I was coming in."
Coach Gunter Brewer has primarily recruited Stewart. Stewart says the UNC coaches have given him some feedback about how he can contribute as a member of the Tar Heels.
"They want me to come in and play the "Mike" linebacker and come in and be a big contributor to the team," said Stewart.
A recent trip was made by Stewart to UNC's campus over Spring Break and has plans to make future visits to UNC and other schools that have shown him interest.
"I know Louisville has been on me strong so I'm about to go visit Louisville and Appalachian State since their pretty close."
Stewarts brother, Austin Stewart, is a free safety for the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Coaches have given Stewart an assessment of what they like about his skill set and Stewart isn't shy in admitting he likes the more physical aspects of football.
"They really like the way I attack. I like to hit people, point blank so I really just want to put my body in there and wreck shop," said Stewart. "Things I can probably work on are just being better, solid technique and maybe (working on) coverage a little more."
Stewart isn't quite ready to narrow down his list just yet because he is still waiting to see what other offers might come his way.
"Honestly, right now the two strongest contenders are Louisville and UNC Chapel Hill," said Stewart about whose at the top of his list. "Clemson, if they gave me an offer I would really consider them.
Stewart has an idea about when he would like the entire process to wrap-up.
"Definitely during the season or sometime over the summer."
