Swain talks about offers
At 6-foot-3, 216 pounds with a 4.51 forty time, Jimmie Swain is quite an intriguing prospect at the outside linebacker position. Recently, Swain picked up his first scholarship offer, which came from the Iowa Hawkeyes, followed by one from the Kansas Jayhawks. We caught up with the Missouri native to get his thoughts on the recruiting process and where things go from here.
Q: What scholarship offers do you have right now?
SWAIN: I have an offer from the University of Iowa and an offer from the University of Kansas.
Q: Was Iowa your first offer?
SWAIN: Yeah, the offer from Iowa happened about a month ago I want to say. That was my first offer and then I just got the offer from Kansas last weekend at their junior day.
Q: Can you talk about how the Iowa offer came about?
SWAIN: Well, their linebackers coach, LeVar Woods, came up to see me at our school and took my film to the defensive coordinator and then the head coach. I guess they liked it because a little while later they called my coach and then I got on the phone with them during one of my free periods and they offered me then.
Q: What was the feeling like getting that first offer under your belt?
SWAIN: It was really relieving I want to say because you've been working for something like that since you were six or seven years old, so just to finally realize that you are going to be able to go and get an education and play at a Division I program is relieving and it feels kind of like a reward for all of the hard work that you've put in since you were a little kid. It felt really good.
Q: How much do you know about Iowa at this point? Have you been up there to visit?
SWAIN: Ever since they offered me, I've been looking at lot more into their academic fields and their campus life and the student population and everything up there. I have not visited the campus yet, but I'm planning on making a trip up there sometime this spring so I can catch one of their spring practices and get to meet more of the staff and some of the players and get a better look at the kind of atmosphere they have up there at the University of Iowa.
