Spartans rank near top of conference
Matt Dorsey
SpartanMag.com Rating Per Recruit:
Ohio State: 3.64
Ohio State is at their usual spot. Meyer is recruiting well, but did anyone expect any difference. Recruiting well at Ohio State is like saying Sam Cassell is ugly.
Michigan: 3.63
Coach Hoke has recruited well at Michigan, but so did Rich Rodriguez. The difference is Hoke's classes looks much more like a typical Big Ten class than one made for the Big West.
Nebraska: 3.19
The Cornhusker took a hit this week when 4-star top 250 recruit Marcus McWilson flipped to Kentucky. Speedster Terrell Newberry of California could be the next great Husker RB.
Michigan State: 3.11
Coach Dantonio's class is led by an impressive LB tandem of Jon Reschke and Shane Jones. Fast rising quarterback Damion Terry is one of fastest rising prospect in the nation
Penn State: 3.0
Credit Coach O'Brien with signing a decent class despite the black cloud. The class is led by 5-star quarterback Christian Hackenberg and top 100 tight end Adam Breneman.
Iowa: 3.0
Coach Ferentz has quietly put together a solid class despite the team struggling. Iowa always seems to steal a committed MAC recruit late who turns out to be pretty good, could Desmond King be that player?
Indiana: 2.95
The Hoosiers have four 4-star commitments which is more than they have had in the past decade combined. DT Darius Lathem was wanted by top BCS programs from coast to coast.
(Maryland: 2.95)
The Terps class is propped up due to 5-star JUCO WR Deon Long. Unfortunately they have zero commitments from the top 10 players I the state of Maryland...Ouch!
Wisconsin: 2.94
Despite the coaching change the Badgers have been able to hold onto their most prized recruits. Defensive ends Alec James and Chikwe Obasih could terrorize QB's for years to come.
Northwestern: 2.89
Coach Fitzgerald does an excellent job of recruiting players that fit the profile of what he is looking for. The offense should be potent with 4-star QB Matt Alviti and dynamic running back Godwin Igwebuike.
(Rutgers 2.77)
Under a new Head Coach the Knight had a good season, but much of the top talent in The Garden State still decided to head elsewhere. WR Andre Patton could be a big player in the Big Ten.
Purdue: 2.74
Holding on to 4-star quarterback Danny Ettling could be very important for Coach Hazell in the future. Still too many victories over non-BCS teams to get back to the "Tiller level".
Minnesota: 2.73
Coach Kill is still in the re-building stage and he has signed a couple of JUCO players that he hopes will have an immediate impact, especially DT Jordan Hinojosa. Nate Wozniak would be a great finish.
Illinois: 2.72
The Illini had a strong class and then the season started and teams started poaching recruits. The Illini signed 5 mid-year JUCO recruits and they still have 4-star Ohio standout Caleb Day.
