Owens pumped about the Orange
Syracuse had a lot of eyes on them Friday night and one of the sets of eyes belonged to Orange verbal commitment Leroy Owens from Palatka, Florida.
"I did watch the game. I was so excited about their defense that it wasn't funny I was jumping up and down on every turnover and every hit. I am am very excited to go play for a defense like that."
With Syracuse stepping up and looking good it has the future Orange defender amped up about getting ready for college.
"With the team playing good it pushes me more and more everyday in the weight room to get better and prepare myself for a rising electrifying team like Syracuse."
Owens, 6-foot-4, 200 pounds has not visited Syracuse yet, but a trip north is in the works.
"When I talk with the coaches from Syracuse they tell me that I will be coming up in December."
The Orange coaches have talked to Owens about a visit, but that is not all.
"We talk about my keeping up on my academics and about my team and how my family doing and about Syracuse and how their season is going."
This year is his last in high school and he is making his mark.
"We struggle a lot on offense and we have had a lot of close loses, we are 1-6. I have 89 tackles, four fumble recoveries, a force fumble, and nine pass break ups in the last six games. The last games stats have not been posted yet."
There is still plenty of time before Owens gets on the Syracuse campus, but he has a few items he is looking for when he gets there.
"I am looking forward to hitting the weight room with the team and getting use to the snow."
