Raven closes whirlwind day with pledge to Rebels
After a whirlwind 24 hours that included reports he had committed to Texas A&M and a blast text to media covering his recruiting that he would make his announcement on National Signing Day, Floyd Raven took another turn of sorts late Tuesday night.
The four-star cornerback from Reserve (East St. John), La., came full circle.
"I'm going to Ole Miss," Raven said via text.
If the commitment _ Raven's second to the Rebels in the last two months _ sticks, he gives Ole Miss a potential impact player at one of the most bare spots on the Rebels' depth chart.
Raven committed to Ole Miss in December but re-opened his recruiting in January when former safeties coach Kim Dameron left the Rebels' staff. Raven visited Utah and Pittsburgh officially and was intrigued at overtures (but no offer) from Alabama and an offer from Michigan.
On Monday afternoon, reports surfaced that the 6-foot-2, 180-pounder had committed to Texas A&M. Raven disputed those reports Monday night and again Tuesday, finally telling media covering the Aggies that he was not committed to Mike Sherman's program.
Late Tuesday, Raven decided he had put himself through enough drama. He posted on his Facebook.com page: "Trusting the Rebels let's do it. I'm in. No more leaving again."
Raven, ranked as the No. 151 prospect in the nation by Rivals.com, is expected to get an early opportunity at playing time.
"It's the SEC," Raven said in December. "It's the toughest league in the country. They have guys already here and I know they have junior college guys coming in. I'm not scared of competition. That empowers me. When I was at the camp, I had to compete."
