Arkansas athlete commits to Ole Miss
Artez Brown attended Ole Miss' Elite Camp back in June and became a high priority for the Rebels during the visit.
Turns out, Brown was pretty high on Ole Miss as well.
The Newport, Ark., athlete called Rebel head coach Houston Nutt after Nutt finished up at the Ole Miss Quarterback Club meeting and delivered some good news. Brown committed to Ole Miss, keeping the Rebels' successful string of commitments going.
The 5-foot-11, 170-pound athlete that excels at cornerback is Ole Miss' 14th commitment for the 2011 class and seventh since Sunday. Brown is the No. 7 overall player in the state of Arkansas, according to Rivals.com.
"The coaching staff is what I like," Brown said. "They have a really great staff, and I'm familiar with the coaches."
Brown has visited Oxford Miss., on four different occasions and describes the small-town campus much the same way as other prospects who have given their verbal pledge to UM.
"It just feels like home there in Mississippi," Brown said. "The campus is really nice. (Tight end) coach (James) Shibest is the one recruiting me, and we're real close. He's a positive person. We talk about everything."
Brown, who visited Arkansas multiple times, has offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Kansas, Memphis and Arkansas State.
"Arkansas and Baylor have been on me pretty hard," Brown said. "Memphis recruited me also, but Ole Miss has always been there. They didn't pressure me, but they were always there.
"They are getting a good player. I'll come in and play my hardest and do my best to make the team better."
In 2009, Brown had 1,406 rushing yards with 16 touchdowns. Defensively, he recorded approximately 50 tackles and three interceptions.
