Gaines staying patient
Michigan wide receiver Ashton Gaines set a goal of making his college decision by July and is sticking to that plan. Until then, the 5-foot-11, 170-pound Gaines is working hard this off-season and staying patient as he waits to see what will happen with the rest of the recruiting process.
Iowa remains the Detroit native's lone scholarship offer, which has been on the table since December, but he is hearing from a number of others, including Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, and Illinois.
As a junior, Gaines put up big numbers on both sides of the ball at Crockett High School. As a receiver, he caught 56 passes for 817 yards and seven touchdowns, and added 71 tackles and seven interceptions on defense. The three-star prospect could wind up playing wide receiver, cornerback, or safety in college.
