Four programs stick out
Offensive linemen are always a key in each recruiting class for football. Last season the Syracuse Orange brought in a couple linemen, but in 2011 they are looking for more. One player Syracuse is looking at is Chris Boles from Toledo (OH) Central Catholic. CuseConfidential.com caught up with him to see how the recruiting process is going and more.
"The recruiting process has been going pretty good. I just hit double digits with my offers, so everything is good. My latest offers were from Western Michigan, Memphis, and Miami (Ohio)."
Boles, 6-foot-5, 315 pounds is now up to double digits offers, but he does have some older offers sticking out at this time.
"Syracuse offered me about two months ago. I was really excited about it because they have a very good school. They have great tradition and have had great players come from their school. The head coach is a former offensive lineman that played in the NFL, so he knows about the line and is an offensive line type of coach."
The Ohio product can play almost any position on the line and Syracuse already has an idea of where they want him to play.
"They are looking at me for Offensive guard."
Tyrone Wheatley is leading the recruiting charge for the Orange when it comes to recruiting Boles. The prospect and coach have a nice relationship growing through the process.
"Coach Wheatley is recruiting me. He is a real cool guy and I like him a lot. He can really relate to things that I am going through right now."
A visit to Syracuse has not happened yet, but one will happen in the next couple of months.
"I have not visited them, but I will be visiting them in the summer. Nothing is set in stone as far as a date yet, but I am going in the summer."
Other than Syracuse Boles will be visiting a few other schools as well.
"Wisconsin, Memphis, Michigan, and Ball St. are the other schools I plan on visiting this summer."
With schools from all over looking at him Boles has an idea of what they like about his game and what makes him a college football player.
"I think it is how I move, my footwork, I am real quick off of the ball, my pulling ability, my strength, and just how athletic I am
Now that he is carrying double digit offers Boles could be ready to do some narrowing down and he already has a list of schools that are sticking out more than others.
"I really like Ohio State, I really really like Wisconsin that is probably my favorite, Syracuse and I like Bowling Green."
After naming those program Boles went on to talk about what he likes about each of them at this moment.
Wisconsin : "They have a great tradition of lineman coming out of there. The offensive line is always good there and they always seem to have some kind of big running back come out of nowhere and do well. Wisconsin is just a pretty place and a good football town."
Syracuse : "Syracuse I just like that it is a nice city, the colors, and I just like them. They seem like a real good school."
Bowling Green : "The coaches have shown me a lot of love and I like the coaches. They are really trying their hardest to recruit me, so I like the effort that they are putting in. Bowling Green is just a nice place and it is like the towns NFL team so everybody is always at all the games."
Ohio State : "I just like the coaches and I love the atmosphere. Every time I go up for a game it is just wonderful, I like the city and I like the people."
An offer from the Buckeyes has not found its way to Boles, but he has talked with the staff about an offer.
"They have, but they just had a bunch of lineman commit and I think they have like five already committed. They are trying to see if some of them will play offense or defense and then they are going to let me know.
A goal time frame has been set for a commitment, but Boles admitted if he needs more time he will take it.
"I want to make my commitment before the season, but it does not have to be before the season. That is just my goal right now."
