Miss. WR to check out Ole Miss spring practice
Tobias Singleton was a fixture at Ole Miss football games in the fall and also traveled to the AT&T Cotton Bowl the first week of January.
This Saturday, Singleton is making another trip to Oxford, Miss., for the Rebels' first spring practice.
The Madison (Central), Miss., wide receiver is arguably the top player in his state for the 2011 recruiting class and has already accumulated an attractive of offers. The three in-state schools - Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Southern Miss - were the first ones to jump in the race, and since then, Singleton has picked up official offers from Alabama, Memphis and Oklahoma State.
"It's so early I'm looking at everybody that thinks enough of me to offer me," Singleton said. "Of course I'm most familiar with Ole Miss because of the trips up there, and I'll get to see them against this weekend. I want to see the new dorms and just check in with all the coaches again.
"But everybody will get a shot. It's really early."
Singleton's knowledge of the Rebels comes from two ways. His brother is a student at Ole Miss, and earlier this year, two of his teammates - Bryon Bennett and Carlton Martin - both signed with Ole Miss.
This weekend, Singleton's making the trip with several fellow Jaguars, including tailback Joe Price (5-foot-9, 175), offensive lineman Logan Ellzey (6-foot-5, 285). While Madison Central has already completed spring practice, this will be Singleton's first view of one.
Due to track obligations, the 6-foot-2, 185-pounder didn't participate in spring practice.
"I really want to play, but my track coach doesn't want to take the chance of me getting hurt," Singleton said. "We've got a shot at winning state, and (football) coach (Bobby) Hall is cool with the track stuff."
Following the day at Ole Miss, Singleton only has one other event scheduled. He's going to Alabama April 17 for the Tide's spring game and is looking to set something up with Oklahoma State. Gunter Brewer, son of former Ole Miss head coach Billy Brewer, is recruiting Singleton for the Cowboys.
"Oklahoma State has some great guys that care about you," Singleton said. "I think I can always talk to them even if I don't pick Oklahoma State."
"It's exciting to check places out, and this weekend will be fun. I know a lot of the Ole Miss players, and we get along great. I'm just having a good time right now."
