Borcich makes the first move
Bronxville, N.Y. prospect Kieran Borcich could possibly be the top defensive lineman in the Empire State for the class of 2011. As it stands now he has seven offers in hand and he spoke with CuseConfidential.com about his most recent offer from Syracuse University.
How exactly did the Orange offer come to be?
"I actually asked my coach to send them some of my film and all of that stuff because I am interested in seeing what they are all about. My coach a few weeks ago sent everything out and I got a text from my coach on Tuesday and he told me to call coach Anselmo because they are ready to offer you. I gave them a call and spoke with coach Shafer and coach Anselmo we talked about the program. I am going to be visiting in the next couple of weeks I think."
Borcich, 6-foot-3, 265 pounds made the first move by showing interest in Syracuse, now that meant the Orange needed to make a move. The move they made was the offer and Borcich was pleased.
"I was pretty pumped up and excited because Syracuse is really the only major program we have in New York State and you want to look at schools in your state when you are looking at great football programs and a good academic school. They are one of the schools I want to take a good look at."
A visit to tour the campus has not been taken, but despite that Borcich is no stranger to Syracuse. Playing football in the Carrier Dome is one of the goals that he has every football season.
"I have been there once. My team played there for the Class C State Championship Game back in November. We played in the Carrier Dome and we lost unfortunately. The Carrier Dome is a real special building because there is so much history there. Every high school player in New York wants to be playing there right before December for that State Championship."
Right now there are six other schools looking at the New York product and the range from the ACC, Big 12, and Big East.
"I have offers from Baylor, Boston College, Connecticut, Duke, Maryland, Rutgers, and Syracuse."
Recently Borcich was able to take a three day road trip to see a few schools that have offered him. The visits seemed to go well and he talked about what he liked at the schools that he visited.
Rutgers: I spent pretty much the whole day there and got to take a look at the campus and everything. The most valuable part of that day was talking with Coach Schiano and getting a chance to meet some of the players."
Boston College: "I did not get much time to spend with the players, but I did spend the day with the defensive line coach. We got to take a tour and we watched some film."
Connecticut: "At Connecticut I got to meet Randy Edsell and I spent some time with him talking about the whole experience, football, and academics."
Outside of those seven schools that have offered there has not been much movement with other schools. The only other school that has started to show interest is West Virginia.
"West Virginia asked for my coach for some film on me a few days ago and we are waiting to hear back from them. Other than that I am not sure about new teams."
With his offer list approaching double digits Borcich has an idea of when he might want to shut down his recruitment.
"I have heard a lot of things like some colleges expect commitments in June and some don't expect them until later. I am pretty much going to take these next three months and I am thinking I might be ready to commit to a school by June. At this point I am just keeping my options open."
During his junior campaign Borcich recorded 94 tackles with 24 sacks.
